Reverend Rick-Miller was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where several generations of her
family have lived. Confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa,
where both of her parents have served as elders, Katherine sees herself as a
child of the church and traces her call to a mission trip in Forteleza, Brazil during her teenage years. While studying psychology at Wake Forest University, Katherine
became more interested in international mission and justice work, and traveled
to India with a group of students to work with Mother Teresa's Missionaries of
Charity. Upon return Katherine sensed a strong call to parish ministry. Before
starting her seminary education at Princeton Theological Seminary, Katherine
spent one year studying at Trinity Theological Seminary in Ghana, West Africa on a Rotary scholarship.
While studying at Princeton Theological Seminary, Katherine's ministry experiences included serving Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia as a seminary intern as well as a summer unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition Katherine did a year long internship at McCracken Memorial Presbyterian Church in Belfast, Northern Ireland as a general associate. While in Northern Ireland, she was married to her husband, Andrew Rick-Miller, who also served as a post-seminary intern at Groomsport Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland. After Katherine graduated from seminary, the couple moved to Philadelphia for Drew to pursue a career in religion and science. He currently serves as an Outreach Coordinator at the Metanexus Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to a constructive dialogue between religion and science.
Katherine currently serves as the Faith and Community-based Volunteer Coordinator for the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger's Food Stamp Enrollment Campaign. Through her work at the Coalition, she has organized churches throughout Philadelphia around local hunger issues, challenging communities of faith to engage the face of hunger and seek justice oriented solutions. Katherine preaches weekly, has kept her deeply engaged in the worshiping and community life of the church. Katherine very much looks forward to immersing herself in the worshiping and spiritual life of a community of faith and to listening and working together to seek God's call for the church.
